A Technical Project Manager for audio-visual (AV) projects oversees the lifecycle of AV system installations, from client consultation and system design to installation, testing, and commissioning, to ensure successful project delivery within budget and on schedule. This role requires strong technical knowledge of AV systems and components, excellent communication and organizational skills to manage stakeholders, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues to ensure clients have a high-quality and user-friendly AV experience. 

Required Skills

Technical Acumen: Good knowledge of AV systems, electronics, cabling, and digital media delivery technologies. 

Project Management: Experience in planning, organizing, and managing multiple projects simultaneously, including creating and managing budgets and schedules. 

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present confidently and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. 

Problem-Solving: The ability to troubleshoot complex AV system issues and find innovative solutions. 

Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills; ability to manage personnel across sites.

Sound commercial acumen and contract management experience.

Key Responsibilities

From Planning and Design to overseeing installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.

Conducting client consultations and presentations, understand needs, developing project plans, and coordinating the purchase and installation of AV equipment. 

Lead internal kickoff meetings to define project scope and deliverables with sales, engineering, and installation teams.

Project Management: Creating and managing project schedules, budgets, and resources while tracking progress and quality control. 

Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serving as the primary point of contact, providing status reports, and ensuring client satisfaction. 

Documentation: Preparing technical documentation, managing system requirements, and maintaining quality assurance processes. Document all internal and external project communications, including technical and financial paperwork.

Technical Oversight: Applying technical knowledge of AV systems to oversee installation, programming, and integration of hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance. 

Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and clients to resolve technical and commercial issues.

Manage risk identification, change orders, and issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle.

Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving technical issues related to power, cabling, software, and hardware components to prevent future problems. 

Ensure adherence to AVIXA and industry standards, health and safety policies, and best practices.

Organize client training sessions for AV system operations and facilitate post-installation support.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to client sites and project venues.
  • Ability to work overtime or outside standard business hours as required.
  • Experience with budget management, vendor coordination, and client-facing roles.
